Shared Hosting Overview
A2 Hosting has built their own hosting platform from the ground up, from the server hardware to the network to the cages and racks the servers sit in. The result of not using off-the-shelf solutions has pushed A2 to be able to offer a solid solution running anything from a personal website up to a fully fledged eCommerce store seeing significant traffic.
To begin, each plan includes many of the essential features you'll need to get started. Free SSL certificates, one-click app installation, free domain registration, free site migration, and a 30-day money-back guarantee are just a few of the features available. Most decent providers offer this degree of included value, which is very beneficial to consumers who are new to hosting.
You'll also have the option of hosting your website from four different datacenter locations featuring Michigan USA, Arizona USA, Amsterdam EU and Singapore. If your audience is primarily based in one of these locations, or close to, it can help lessen your reliable on a Content Delivery Network (CDN). Though if a CDN is preferred, A2 Hosting is fully compatible with CloudFlare's CDN.
A2 Hosting's Unlimited Policy
Companies offering unlimited disk space and bandwidth for your website is not uncommon. Understandably, some customers may be wary of this as to make it work and maintain a reliable hosting environment certain restrictions and policies needs to be put in place. A2 Hosting's unlimited policy does appear to lean on the fairer side compared to the majority of the competition.
For starters, A2 Hosting has an inode limit which is also common among unlimited providers. However, while the typical limit is set at 200,000 - 250,000, A2 features a very generous 600,000 inode limit on their shared hosting packages. Inodes in short, is the number of files you have on your web hosting account. Each file and email counts as 1 inode.
As is to be expected, you also can't use the unlimited space for anything not relevant to your website. So don't plan on hosting your life long backups on your hositng account and you should be fine.
A2 Hosting Performance
A2 Hosting positions itself as a performance driven hosting provider citing claims such as 'up to 20x faster hosting'. We put their speed tests to the claim and found their Drive plans to be pretty average (which would leave us to expect average performance for their Startup plan as well). However, their Turbo hosting plans are an entirely different story.
The Turbo plans (Turbo Boost and Turbo Max) are an entirely different platform compared to Startup and Drive. Featuring AMD EPYC servers, LiteSpeed Web Server and NVMe drives. The performance out the gate was already rather impressive though after combining A2 Optimized (A2's performance and security plugin for WordPress) the difference was day and night. Without a doubt one of the fastest providers we have ever tested, and THE fastest hosting provider we have tested in the budget hosting segment.
